Our Last Goodbye until March

Today we arrived at the Casa to have breakfast with the madres and Padre Pablo. Saying our goodbyes was definitely a tough thing to do...some tears and lots of hugs! We let everyone know that it is only goodbye until March. We plan to come back to Celaya to celebrate Lucia´s birthday with the kids. This summer was filled with so much fun and memories that will last forever.

These last few weeks have been incredible. Casa Camp 2012 was truly a success. Despite some mishaps, the camp was amazing and the kids had a great time. We are now spending some time in Guadalajara and will be returning to Chicago on August 30th.

Thank you to everyone who has donated and supported Casa Camp 2012. Can´t wait until next summer!

Week Two

Week two went really well!

On Tuesday, Sean(One of our great volunteers) had to go back to Canada. The kids were so happy that he came and they had a lot of fun getting to know him and he taught them how to draw. It was really great to see the kids so happy.

Our other volunteer, Shawn(aka Shawn 2) has been doing a mural with the kiddos and they have been having a lot of fun with that.

Can't wait for next week!

First Week

The first week of Casa Camp 2012 was a success! The kids had a blast.

Below are a few pictures from some of the activities we did. Next week will do an even better job of documenting. Thanks again to our donors who helped provide all of the materials.

July 5th Update

Things are going very well here in Celaya. We are having so much fun. It has been great being able to see the kids daily. We are starting to the plan out the camp more and more and by the 15th we are going to be ready to start! Can't wait.

Two days ago we brought some of the crayons and coloring pages that were donated, the kids loved that! We can't wait until we have more projects to do with them.

We arrived yesterday and today was our first real day spending a little time with the kiddos. They have all gotten so big, even since December. I guess that's how it goes...making me feel old! Here are a few photos. We brought kites and beach balls to the Casa today...they were a hit! Enjoy and check for more photos tomorrow!

Hi All,
Thank you to everyone who has supported us so far.
Luis and I will be packing and getting arrangements together in order to bring down all of our supplies. We have just received over 50 new items from Creative Pitch, including new book bags!
If you'd like to donate today, please do so. A portion of your donation will go towards buying new sports equipment as well as helping to ship the supplies down.

For a few summers, Lucia took Spanish classes in Guanajuato( a city close to Celaya). After recently speaking with one of her friends, Gonzalo Vazquez, who works at Escuela Falcon. Casa Camp 2012 is proud to announce that we will be working with them! Escuela Falcon will be informing their students of the volunteer opportunity to work with Casa Camp 2012 a few days out of the week, or on the weekends. Escuela Falcon offers a wide variety of Spanish classes along with many other classes. We are very happy about the new partnership. Please check them out if you are interested in taking a class! Big Announcements

Hello! Since I last updated, there are just a few announcements.

1- We now have a Donate button on our page, took a little while but it is finally here! So please, forward our information about the camp to your friends, family and whoever else! We would greatly appreciate it.

2- We would like to announce that many new organizations and people have been responding to our camp and will be donating to Casa Camp 2012! One of them being Creative Pitch. They will be helping us on our mission to create an amazing summer for the children of Casa ! They will be collecting supplies for us for the next few months so we can take them down to Celaya. Big and exciting news for us!

Things for Casa Camp 2012 are going so well, spreading the word and getting support! Couldn't be happier with the way things are turning out.

Luis and I thought it would be a wonderful idea to start writing little stories about some of our experiences with the kids at the Casa.

At the Casa you are exposed so many different types of people, the stories you hear and the experiences you have really do change your life in little ways. I'll begin with a short story about a girl named Sofia, age 5(name changed for privacy of the girl) In December of 2010, I went to Celaya to shoot a documentary named 108 Calle Hidalgo(still attached from the opening of the film). I went down with my mom and we shot for a week--very short time, but it's all I had for break! One night, we went to the Casa and I saw Sofia. I've known Sofia for a short time and she came right up to me and took my hand. She smiled and told me(in Spanish) "I have a present for you, can I give it to you?" She touched my bracelet and said, "Can I tell you what it is?" and I said "sure!" She told me that she made a bracelet for me but that it's not something I was probably used to having, because it isn't made of gold. Little did she know, the bracelet I was wearing I think I got from some little craft fair in Astoria, NY...it definitely wasn't gold! It was really interesting to see how someone so young could have such a strong perception of what people from the US are like or what they're "used to".

So, right there is a little story that has so much impact on me. There are so many more stories to tell...

Casa Camp will be starting its first ever summer session from July 15- August 5, 2012! Casa Camp will be located at Hogar del Pobre( Casa) in Celaya,Mexico(close to Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende.) Casa is an orphanage run by 10 nuns and houses anywhere between 50-120 people throughout the year, ages ranging from babies-late 30's. Activities at the camp will include outdoor/indoor games, art projects, a variety of sports games and field trips around Celaya.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR NEW OR SLIGHTLY USED ART SUPPLIES. scissors, paper, pens, markers, crayons, you name it!

The goal for this camp is to provide fun activities for the children and for them to have the most memorable summer ever!
